Professor Wan Buyan led the development of the "Manatee" and "Submarine 60 meter Multipurpose Drilling Machine", which successfully conducted sea trials at a depth of 3109 meters in the South China Sea, setting a new record for China's deep-sea drilling depth. As a result, China has become the fourth country in the world to have the technology to drill 60 meters into the seabed at depths greater than 3000 meters. Professor Wan started with the development of the first domestically produced deep-sea drilling rig, and after more than 30 years of deep cultivation, the independently developed "Hainiu II" drilled 231 meters in deep water exceeding 2000 meters, breaking the world record and witnessing the transformation of China's deep-sea resources and geological drilling equipment and technology from scratch, from backwardness to catching up and then to surpassing.
